🦟 Tick Season is Here — Stay Safe Out There Spring turkey season means ticks are active too. A few simple steps go a long way:
Treat your clothing with permethrin before heading out — focus on ankles, cuffs, and collar. It repels and kills ticks on contact and lasts through several washes.
Use DEET on exposed skin. Unlike deer season, you don't need to worry about scent control in the spring, so use it freely.
Tuck your pants into your boots and tape the tops if you want extra insurance.
Do a full tick check before you get back in your truck. Hit the shower within two hours of coming out of the woods.
If you find one attached, use fine-tipped tweezers, grasp close to the skin, and pull straight out — no twisting. Apply antiseptic and watch for a bull's-eye rash or flu-like symptoms in the following days.
A little prep keeps you in the woods and out of the doctor's office. Good luck this season!
2026 Thursday Afternoon 5 Stand League
Where: Salmon Creek Sportsmens Club
When: Starts April 9th through May 14th
Particulars: 25 targets per week. 6 weeks — top 5 scores count toward final shoot. Unlimited make-ups . Shoot-off classes determined by Lewis System. Some targets will be changed weekly.
Shoot-off: May 21 with steak dinner for qualifying shooters. Format will be 25 pairs (50 targets).
Time: 4 PM until everyone is done .
Cost: $20 buy-in at first sign-up ($8.00 for targets & prize fund, $12.00 toward dinner). $8.00 per round of 25 after that.
5 Stand is open to everyone! There is no requirement to join the league — anyone is welcome to come out and shoot.
